Experience Summary
I have a very diverse background range from English to science. My jobs require me to understand complex topics so that I can convert them into concepts that are understandable by lay audiences. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Humanities. I am finishing my Master of Science in Entomology at the University of Nebraska. My unconventional background is what fuels my desire to learn about science. I have a solid understanding of grammar as evident by the more than 300 trade letters, papers, and articles I have authored in my career. I have tutored numerous people in mathematics, biology, and science writing and journalism. That is my way of paying back all those people who taught me what I know today.
Teaching Style
I use the scientific method of teaching. My style is Socratic. I believe, as Rene Descartes did before me, that human knowledge is innate, including our ability to learn and use language. I teach children to learn by given them the tools they need to think logically and abstractly. Life is dynamic, what happens today, will likely change tomorrow. I believe that children need to understand that there are consequences for their actions. The scientific method is a great way of learning cause and effect. Few of us are fortunate enough to learn from others talking. Most of us learn by doing. That is my method.
