Experience Summary
After graduation from college in Texas I taught high school math in Brownsville, Texas for 4 years. I moved to Dallas and taught math in Richardson for 8 more years before we moved to California.
I chose to home school my own children in all subjects for grades 1-12. They are now both honor students at there respective universities. While my youngest was finishing high school, I got California certified and taught in an alternative school for 5 more years. I taught an independent study program and also taught Algebra classes. Since being layed off from that position due to budget cuts, I have been tutoring students of all ages in reading as well as in math.
Teaching Style
I strongly believe that education matters. It is important for all students who want to be successful in life. I am also aware that education comes in many different forms. For some it is in the books themselves. For others it is in the interpretation of the work, and for many it is simply in the joy of learning and building self esteem. Throughout my 20+ years of teaching and tutoring students, I have become very aware that all students can learn and be successful if they can find their strengths and a way to use them to their advantage. Once they feel success, it becomes an addiction and they want more and more of it. I feel it is my job to be patient and help them find their strengths.
