Experience Summary
I am a recent graduate of the University of South Alabama, College of Education. I returned to school to earn a teaching certificate in elementary education so that I might expand my career in environmental science as an educator. I have completed two semesters of student teaching, one semester in classroom observation/aide, and one semester as a reading tutor. In addition to these degree requirements, I have been an activity presenter at the Baldwin County Water Festival for the past four years. I volunteer to assist with children’s art activities at the Eastern Shore Art Center in Fairhope. I have extensive experience in technical science writing from my graduate work and my job as an environmental analyst.
Teaching Style
I am still developing a teaching style. However, I know from personal experience that constructing knowledge requires much more than reading a textbook. All learners have unique learning styles that influence learning success. A student’s favored learning style is a valuable resource for a tutor, allowing the student to discover more about the world and themselves while simultaneously developing a joy for learning. I use informal assessments to instruct my instruction, and assist students to monitor their own learning progress. My strongest teaching tools are good listening skills, patience and perseverance, and a desire to find each student’s academic and creative strengths.
