Experience Summary
I graduated from Spelman College in May 2009 with a BA in English. As an English major, I learned to think critically, use proper grammar mechanics, proofreading skills, critical reading techniques and research and argumentation skills. I wrote numerous papers on many subject matters and received very high marks. In the last four years, I have served as a mentor and tutor for various grade levels and different educational levels. In my time as a tutor and mentor, I helped many students with their reading and writing skills.
Teaching Style
While teaching, I employ the constructivist learning theory. I begin with what the student knows and build off of their prior knowledge. To test what they know beforehand, I would administer a short pretest on some basic skills and once that test has been evaluated, I will begin teaching from the information with the least familiarity. While engaging in one-on-one dialogue, I would still employ the constructivist learning theory. The student and I will engage in a conversation about the subject I am teaching.
