Experience Summary
I first began tutoring during high school, volunteering with Time to Rise in Nashville, TN, a program that supplies students from underperforming schools with supplemental education. After high school, I excelled during college at the University of the South, spending time in Oxford at St Catherine's College, graduating summa cum laude, and being elected into Phi Beta Kappa. The liberal arts curriculum there provided such a broad education that I have maintained competency in nearly every subject. Such an education has come in handy during the four months I have been tutoring, as the students I assist will ask my help on subjects ranging from geology, to English lit, and to mathematics.
Teaching Style
My own experience as a student has shown me that i was most effectively motivated when I realized the enjoyment I could draw from schoolwork. Approached in the right way, all aspects of the educational experience -- lecture, class discussion, and even test-taking and essay-writing -- can be fun when the student saw these activities as opportunities to challenge themselves. Many enjoy athletics because it tires and strengthens the body; as a tutor, I have found that I can impart similar enjoyment through the exercise and strengthening of the mind.
