Experience Summary
At the end of my undergraduate work at UW-Oshkosh, I was asked to intern for the Baraboo School District in place of student teaching . Working with fourth graders was the beginning of my life as an educator. After five years of teaching, I changed grade levels and taught fifth grade for four years. During this time, I had the opportunity to work with The Everyday Math Program, inquiry based learning, and 6-Trait Writing. I specialized in teaching Science and Social Studies when I was teaching fifth grade along with the Reading, Language, Spelling subjects. After a two year break, I'm currently substituting in many districts around Deerfield. I have subbed in Kindergarten through fifth as well as special need classrooms.
Teaching Style
I believe that learning and success are possible for all children, but they are the result of time and patience. I feel high expectations are important, yet I'm careful not to frustrate the lower achievers. If a teacher encourages learning and makes it worthwhile, I believe that the learning process will flourish.
Children learn in different ways. Because all children deserve an equal chance to learn , it's my responsibility to meet these learning styles to the best of my ability. This is done by presenting material in a variety of ways, as well as incorporating hands-on experiences as much as possible. I think children will retain material better if they are able to experience it.
