Experience Summary
I have been a piano teacher for 29 years, teaching privately in my home studio. I am insatiable in my pursuit of knowledge, and have wide interests. My first degree in history and philosophy influenced me in how I approached all other fields of study. I am never satisfied with a superficial knowledge of anything I undertake. My experience with other cultures has been a huge influence in how I approach knowledge and how I approach teaching. I lived in Quebec, Canada for 29 years, learned French and studied in a French university. I also speak German. I am an excellent writer in English. Anything I have ever submitted for publication has been accepted.
Teaching Style
The best validation I have for my teaching style is to watch my students. They are well-rounded in their knowledge and confident in their performance. I believe in enabling my students, showing them skills that will help them become independent learners. I believe that every person has strengths. When I meet my students for the first time I find out what those strengths are, and we start from there. My teaching approach is very much centered on the person I am teaching, and starting from his/her level of understanding, building confidence at each step along the way. I love teaching all ages, and delight in each stage of learning.
