Experience Summary
I own my own science consulting firm and like to dedicate a certain percentage of my time to education and public outreach projects including teaching, mentoring, and tutoring. I have taught high school and college students on and off since 1986 and have had several students go on to VERY successful careers, perhaps one of the best ways to evaluate ones ability as a teacher. My most recent success (2006-07) was a 7th grade C and B student who had straight A's after only two months of working together and finished 7th grade with straight A's. Her confidence level increased dramatically (as noted by her family and friends) and she now has set her sights on Harvard as a real possibility someday.
Teaching Style
I tailor my teaching style to the student. Throughout the years I have recognized that each student has a different way of learning and I make it my goal to adapt to them, to try to reach them in a way that is most effective for the individual. I have a strong sense of academic excellence and try to instill the core values of diligence, focus, and perseverance on each student. I also try to make learning enjoyable by providing real world examples and reasons for why we need to learn what we are required to learn. Even though my educational background is in science and math, I place significant emphasis on the importance of having good English grammar, writing, and reading skills and being generally well-rounded academically.
