Experience Summary
Achieving a BS in Education and a MS in Counseling, I have secured various positions. I have taught Montessori and elementary school to adult classes in English as a second language. I have also taught small groups of middle school pre-GED classes focusing on Language Arts and Reading and tutored groups and individuals, emphasizing FCAT preperation in language arts, reading and math.
As a counselor in elementary school, I ran groups of special interests and in high school, the usual duties were performed, along with helping students with higher learning preperation.
Having a position as a Character education teacher was a treat, for it combined my teaching and couseling skills! My students were able to learn values and morals through reading, and fun language arts activities. It was a treat for them as well, for it engaged them much more in the learning activites since the subjects were meaningful to them.
Teaching Style
My counseling background has been an excellent asset in my teaching career. Learning best takes place in an atmosphere of comfort, when a teacher makes the environment non theatening, and motivates the student through positive feedback while having fun. Zeroing in on the best learning style of the student is a great help also. Fortunately I have been able to achieve this.
I realize that when I can help students think for themselves and become more articulate (one example - asking open ended questions)they gain more self esteem and are better prepared to meet the world. My goal is to have each student meet their potential, have fun while doing it and accept that all have different capabilities which are special.
