Experience Summary
I have a degree in Middle School Education that allows me to teach Language Arts and Social Studies, and have a Master's degree in English which allows me to teach at the high school and community college level. I have taught middle school in the public and private arena ( I wrote the curriculum and self-analysis for the private school's accreditation). I was a long term and short term substitute in all areas and grades for more than 10 years, and have been a tutor in a variety of subjects since college.
Teaching Style
I have a laid back, yet no nonsense style of teaching that I believe works with most students. I am a friendly and supportive figure, but there is no doubt that I am the one in charge in the classroom or in a tutoring situation. I like for students to learn to think inside, outside, above, and beyond the box when they are trying to learn a subject. No one way is 100% correct, and if a child cannot learn one way, then there is always another way to process the information. Not all children will love to learn, but I do try to show them that they can respect the process, and use it to their advantage.
