Experience Summary
I was a Montessori Teacher for 10 years in California. I taught children from two to six years.I also taught Spanish to children from five to fourteen years old. When I worked at Desert Marigold school I was the reading specialist. From 1986 to 1991 I was a PhD student at Stanford University in California. I studied Educational Psychology which focused on struggling readers. This is where I learned about reading.
Teaching Style
I like teaching very much. I get a great deal of satisfaction from helping struggling readers and seeing them achieve. My policy in teaching is to show the students, work with them until they understand and finally - let them do it alone. When I teach Spanish I make it fun. Learning a new language should be fun. I do not focus on grammar but on learnimg the language in a useful way. That does not mean I ignore grammar but I don't teach it first. I believe that education is a journey and not a destination. All children can learn - you just need to find a way into their brains and hearts.
