Experience Summary
As a graduate of the University of South Florida, I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Creative Writing and write a weekly column on the internet. My desire to be a teacher stems from my love for educating students and encouraging them to nurture their appreciation for literature and the written language. When certain students may lack that appreciation, I relish the challenge of turning their disinterest into interest through books or stories they might enjoy. I have also spent a great deal of time proofreading papers as well as teaching others the basics of computers and computer repair.
Teaching Style
For the past two years I have been running and organizing events for adolescents between the ages of ten and twenty-four. Being able to do so has given me a great opportunity to direct and organize young people, as well as to observe how the growing mind operates, all within the confines of a creative environment.
One of the things I have learned is that students tend to learn better when they are guided to the answer rather than simply told them. For example, I’ve found when asking a series of questions that lead the student to deduce the answer on their own they tend to retain the information more readily. In this way it comes across as a puzzle that they’ve solved, making it an accomplishment for them.
