Experience Summary
For the last nine years, except for one break to finish my college degree, I worked at the Boys & Girls Club of Erie County. My primary job was director of education, where most of my time was spent tutoring, teaching and helping with homework. Over that timespan I worked with a wide range of students from first grade on up to graduating seniors and college volunteers. I can assist students in all of the academic disciplines. My specific degree is English, with a concentration on Creative Writing. My personal favorites are science and philosophy.
Teaching Style
Each student engages homework in a different way. For example, some with a lackadaisical approach, some with a sense of being overwhelmed, some that are missing fundamentals and some unable to self-check. The one thing all students have in common: the desire to learn is in their minds. It may be pushed aside, but all students feel the power of knowledge.
I am very friendly and tolerant, yet straightforward. I am clear about responsibilities and expectations. I won't waste anyone's time, nor take a paycheck for accomplishing nothing. I can communicate in a simple way the circumstances of a situation and make insightful assessments on student's work.
