Experience Summary
I have enjoyed the opportunity to teach students to excel at several different levels during my career as a research scientist. As a graduate student, I tutored and mentored students in the local middle school science research class. Upon completing my Ph.D. I designed and taught college courses, and have more recently taught a year of science at the high school level. I have always been good at explaining difficult technical concepts in science and math, but also have a strong writing and editing background, and feel that is also an area that I am strong in from an experience/ educational perspective.
Teaching Style
I have had some very patient and supportive teachers and mentors throughout my education, which extended well into my adulthood. As a result, I tend to be very compassionate, understanding, and supportive of the students that I have taught and mentored. I tend to be thorough, provide a constructive learning environment, and motivate students to succeed. I am most proud to have had the experience of getting my lowest acheiving students to become some of the highest achievers and proudest students by the end of the school year. I tend to be able to motivate both the best and poorer performing students to be able to succeed by setting goals and achieving them.
