Experience Summary
I am a retired teacher from the MA Public Schools. I have worked in Special Education and regular education. I have developed, executed and evaluated IEP's.I am skilled at testing students, writing reports, and working day to day with parents. My work in special education dealt with students of many learning needs and styles. I developed many programs which included a student's multiple intelligence and specific learning stlye. Many of the classes I taught were of mixed abilty level, which required a creative approach to literature. My program for these classes grew to include 7 novels being read for a specific genre at a time. This was a program that became a model that other teachers followed. I also tutored former students.
Teaching Style
Teaching for me was not a job, but my life. Greeting my students daily in the hallway was a joy. Every day with my students was a challenge to make it better the the day before. I truely love working with children. I believe that avery child can learn, although some may need a different approach. Each child has a way of learning and understanding information. I find it a challenge to find that the specific approach that will trigger learning. Making a child believe that he /she can learn is the first step. My style is to connect with a student, get to know his/her needs, meet those needs, and show that I care.
