Experience Summary
I was a Graduate Teacher’s Assistant at the University of North Florida January 2008-May 2008 in the Criminal Justice & Criminology Department, for Crime In America & Justice Systems (Courses included Freshman-Senior); where I facilitated breakout sessions of lecture course, aided course instructor in main lecture, instructed main lecture course in absence of instructor, prepared lectures, quizzes, and examinations, and graded and maintained record of student grades. I tutored 1-3 graders for the FCAT from 2003-2006. I've taught 5-11 year olds since 2002 in private settings. I currently mentor middle and high school students that I have been with for the past 3 years. I also teach beginning and intermediate flute for all ages.
Teaching Style
I tailor my teaching style to the student. I believe that the lesson should be based on the learner and not the preference of the teacher. Repetition is good for learning; therefore, the use of various teaching methods are employed in order to maximize the information retained and learned by the individual student. I may use music, writing, reading (various types of writing materials),arts & crafts, and real life relations to engage the student in retaining and comprehending information; not just for the class, but for a solid foundation in the subject area. I desire for the student to retain the information beyond the test.
