Experience Summary
Since 1993, I have been tutoring primarily reading, reading comprehension, writing, and language arts to students ranging in age from preschoolers to candidates for a Master's degree and ranging in abilities from learning disabilities, ADD, ESOL, to gifted. In the area of elementary-school reading, for example, I start with phonics, break up and sound out new words, and seek out unfamiliar words from assigned reading. Furthermore, in the area of writing an organized paragraph in formal English, older students use multi-colored pens to add adjectives, adverbs, and conjunctions to second drafts. Putting these components and others together gives the student a measurable sense of accomplishment, and I love to guide students toward this goal.
Teaching Style
Possessing a warm, empathetic personality in combination with a serious attitude toward learning, I am an old-fashioned teacher. I believe in giving a solid background, and I believe in repetition for emphasis. Moreover, cognizant of individual differences, I change my method in order to reach a struggling student. These factors obtain results. In sum, I am proud of my students' accomplishments, and THEY are noticeably proud of their accomplishments.
