Experience Summary
I have extensive (17 years) classroom experience and hold both a BA in Elementary/Early Secondary English Education and an MS in Education/Concentration in Reading. While the majority of my experience has been in Head Start, First Grade and Second Grade, I have also worked with high school students at an all-male correctional institute, developmentally challenged children and adults at two institutions, and students in all elementary grade levels through my tutoring experiences. I was honored to receive the Teacher of the Year award at my previous place of employment, an award based on parent, faculty and student input. I have Permanent Teacher Certification in both New York and Florida.
Teaching Style
ALL children can learn! I believe that the key to educational success lies in discovering HOW each individual learns best and teaching to those strengths. For instance, your child may be a visual learner and may be in a classroom where the majority of the information is presented verbally. I would take the information that your child needs to learn and make charts, use pictures, provide hands-on learning materials, etc. to teach TO your child's learning style. Through my seventeen years as an educator, I have become adept at recognizing the various learning styles and adapting my teaching to meet each individual's needs. I am passionate about teaching, positive, upbeat and, very importantly, I try to make learning as FUN as possible.
