Experience Summary
For the last 25 years, I taught mathematics in grades 7-12 in central New York near Syracuse before I moved to Jacksonville. Although my focus has been math, I like to focus on study skills that best fit the learning style of the individual student, whether it is math or English or Social Studies. I also spent 3 years at Colgate University as a User Services Consultant in the Computer Laboratory. That title meant it was my responsibility to work with students on their resumes, cover letters, job applications and on any computer software that we supported. I definitely had to be flexible and knowledgeable in many areas!
Teaching Style
I have always taught math with an interdisciplinary team of teachers, so I get a perspective of "the entire kid." That way, if a student was not learning in my math class room, I looked for ways that made that student successful in other subjects that I could use in my teaching. Although my major for both my Bachelors' degree and Masters' degree was mathematics education, I enjoy working with students in other subjects, focusing on their strengths. I feel that in order for a student to be successful in any subject, they have to like the subject first. I have a great sense of humor and often used that in my class room for students to enjoy school in general and math in particular!
