Experience Summary
I am fluent in American Sign Language and have served as an interpreter mainly in religious settings. I taught at the preschool level for 17 years before completing my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education K-6 with ESOL Endorsement from the University of South Florida. I currently teach 2nd grade in a south-county school which has allowed me to work with students from all walks of life and abilities. Working at a elementary magnet school for engineering, I have helped to write an elementary engineering curriculum that is standards-based and integrated across the curriculum. I have tutored students in primary math and reading capacities in the last 2 years.
Teaching Style
I believe that all children can learn but they don’t all learn in the same way. It is important to maintain structure but in a relaxed atmosphere that is conducive to learning. I ascertain that children can make their own connections to what they are studying and then claim success for their learning. I use a variety of resources to help a child grasp understanding such as music, manipulatives, books, and technology. Through direct instruction of needed skills and strategies, guiding their practice, and individual practice, I scaffold children’s learning.
