Experience Summary
My career in teaching and counseling has covered several regions of the USA and international work in two foreign countries. Besides teaching in a classroom setting, I have enjoyed tutoring experiences in writing labs at the college level and extensive tutoring situations with foreign nationals, elementary through high school age. My expertise in Language Arts, my personal writing, my travel journals – all add to my ability and enjoyment in teaching others the joys of reading and writing. I am very comfortable with math, science, and history at the elementary and middle school levels. My experience with college and career counseling at the high school level would be valuable to high school students.
Teaching Style
Most rewarding for a teacher is seeing the difference she makes in her students’ lives. When I began teaching to smaller groups and individual students, I realized how dynamic personal attention is to the learning process. I saw this when teaching AP students and providing them with personal “essay reviews.” “She’s talking to me. She’s showing me. She really cares.” And I do. I so enjoy working one on one with learners. The personal dialogue is invaluable to learning. Would that the education system could provide such a service to all students. At this point in my ongoing career in education, I want nothing more than to share my expertise with students who need personal attention. The rewards continue…
