Experience Summary
Reading, writing, and speaking are essential skills that students of all levels would be well advised to hone and perfect. Throughout my teaching experiences, I have striven to assist both teachers and students to use words thoughtfully to be a critical reader of the words of others. While teaching continuing education classes for teachers, I helped my colleagues gain new tools to help them unpack difficult texts, and model how to share those tools with their students. I have experience teaching middle and high school students of all levels, from remedial to gifted. I also have tutored and mentored college students in reading, public speaking, and composition at all levels from undergraduate to graduate.
Teaching Style
All students can gain great benefits from participating in rigorous coursework and being encouraged to think critically. I am a firm believer in using differentiation techniques to allow students, regardless of level, to access and engage with the subject matter in a meaningful way. Students I work with are provided with a variety of tools and techniques to use as they create meaning, and fit that new learning into their own schema. I am patient and kind with students I teach, without sacrificing high expectations to do so. I strive to create an environment where learning is valued, students are respected, and the joys of learning are discovered.
