Experience Summary
I believe there are no bad students, just bad methods of teaching. Therefore, I have sought out the best methods of teaching to aid my students in understanding a subject, building on the basics. I have used these methods successfully as a homebound instructor for middle school and high school students. I also have experience working with ‘learning disabled’ and remedial level students in the third grade. Currently, I tutor community college students in Algebra and assist with English Composition proof-reading.
Teaching Style
I approach teaching is “learner centered.” I first determine a student’s personality and learning style. Then, I tailor the instruction to use his or her strengths to accelerate comprehension. Building on the basics is essential to progressing through a subject area. Therefore, I will diagnose any gaps in learning and cover these before progressing. I am very encouraging and supportive, and at the same time have high expectations for all my students. My belief in the student goes a long way to motivating achievement in them.
