Experience Summary
I have worked in ICC's mathlab since fall 2008, tutoring all kinds of math ranging from elementary Algebra and Geometry to Calculus, though I do not do statistics. I can also tutor Discrete Math, a subject about logic, math puzzles, algorithms and computational concepts. I am an active member of the Association of Mathematics Engineering and Science Students, a club that promotes group work and student tutoring.
I grew up in China and lived there for 16 years before I came to US for college education. I can speak, read and write Chinese fluently. The tough high school years in China made me a better Chinese tutor than many grown-ups.
Teaching Style
I'm friendly, and I'm willing to help anybody who need help. I like to make the students think for themselves because I believe that math and physics is more about the understanding of the concept than remembering the formulas. To get better understanding of the topic, one has to practice and to think on one's own. I give hints when they are stuck. I believe that people can do the problems with my hints or by following my examples. They are definitely mentally ready for the material especially when they are taking the class at the same time. I am patient and I always tell people to slow down when they do things too quick and miss something in execution.
