Experience Summary
My original background is in classical languages and philosophy. I earned my degree summa cum laude. During the course of my studies I began to consider medicine and medical research as a potential career. After earning my BA I took some time to pursue additional education to prepare myself for higher education in the sciences. I found my original humanities background gave me a distinct advantage in the sciences, since it substantially bolstered my written and oral communication skills and provided formal training in logic and complex reasoning that many scientists surprisingly lack.
Teaching Style
I prefer to mix didactic and socratic teaching styles. Students must experience many subjects in a variety of ways. It is generally not sufficient to teach an advanced subject without asking the student to apply the information. In science and math exercises and questions are crucial, as these fields largely focus on giving the student tools that they can later apply to diverse situations where the answers to pertinent questions are not generally known and must be deduced.
