Experience Summary
Upon graduating from Penn State University with a double major in Sec. Education and Psychology, I began my new career teaching secondary English, World History & Cultures, & Psychology. Coming West, I taught middle school English & Social Studies in Colorado for four years.
In addition, I have been a business college instructor & counselor for 13 years. Thus, overall, I have had 20+ great years' experience instructing at the sec. and post-sec. levels.
Now semi-retired in Fort Collins, CO, I have tutored at middle school levels in English comp., writing skills' development, and U.S. history--and have served on CSU's tutorial staff--and loved every opportunity!
Teaching Style
Effective, long-term educational results occur best in a teaching environment that includes energy, enjoyment, and enthusiasm (i.e., the joy of learning!). With that motivation, I believe that building a strong foundation in every subject area is the key to students' learning and retention. Teaching the "Hows" and "Whys"---not just the "Whats" (the answers)--is imperative as is critical thinking and organizational development! Also, relevant, meaningful applications of learned material are essential and encouraged.
Being a results-oriented, caring tutor and mentor is always my ultimate goal---with smiles all around! Teaching competence while developing confidence is the key to effective learning!
