Experience Summary
I have taught classes full time and also individuals at various levels from junior high school through community college. These experiences in were in Chicago, Hawaii, and Los Angeles teaching mostly mathematics and totaled about 10 years full time equivalence. More recently, I have taught Adult GED classes and individuals in Mathematics, Reading and Grammar, Science, and Social Studies for the Pinellas County Schools part time for three years. My tutoring of individuals outside of the public schools has been most often in Mathematics such as Pre-algebra, Algebra and SAT Mathematics. I have also taught SAT and more elementary Language Arts privately.
Teaching Style
After asking students about their current levels corresponding written diagnostic tests will be given. Students' individual results will be discussed. Weekly hours of student availability for working both with the tutor and alone in addressing "mutual" learning goals will be planned.
Subject material can be patiently and thoroughly worked through in private tutoring. The frequent monitoring checkpoints, including mini-tests, would not be possible with a larger group. Periodic student-tutor reviews of progress toward broader goals should be planned for.
Cheering the student on toward further satisfying attainments is essential to morale while leading the student through the material.
