Experience Summary
Summary of Experience
My approach to teaching has been shaped by the many years that I spent as tenured faculty at a community college from 1986 – 2008 where I taught remedial and college English reading, writing and communication courses. I also taught a variety of teaching credential courses to K-12 in-service teachers. Furthermore, I provided after-school English tutoring during the school year, and taught English refresher courses to K-12 students during the summer. Aside from the deep passion that I have for teaching/learning, the knowledge and experience that I have in English combined with my background in teaching pedagogy has contributed significantly to my distinguished ability to assist anyone at the college level or below having difficulty with English grammar, reading, writing, or communication.
Teaching Style
Teaching Style
I believe that every individual, regardless of age, has the potential to learn, and that as an educator, I play a key role in facilitating the learning experience in order that the learner achieves the targeted objective(s). I believe further that a learner learns best when the learning experience is a comfortable one. My teaching style; therefore, involves creating a warm rapport with the learner right from the start, and helping him/her realize that he/she can achieve whatever it is with my help. Once a positive teaching-learning relationship has been established, and the learner has gained a sense of confidence to proceed, it would simply be a matter of using the appropriate teaching strategies to help him/her achieve the targeted objective(s).
