About Me

Experience Summary

I am presently employed as a Math and Reading Tutor with Streetsboro City Schools. I am responsible for small group instruction in reading and math for 4th - 6th graders. I teach and implement strategies ot help increase fluency and comprehension. I practice research based strategies such as echo, choral and pair reading. I also teaching decoding strategies using context clues and word recognition. In math I teach strategies to help with word problems and written responses in math. The students are taught problem solving skills and formula writing. I have weekly lessons and assessments based on the Ohio State curriculum indicator. The students also practice weekly math fact fluency. I have also substitute taught for seven years and done many long-term assignments the most recent was for 5th grade science and math. I was responsible for creating daily lesson plans based on the Ohio State curriculum indicators. I taught, assessed and graded all assignments. I was in direct contact with the students' parents as needed.

Teaching Style

I feel that my success as a teacher is attributed to many things. I am a very animated and engaging person. I feel that if the student feels included and engaged he/she will be more willing to participate. The enthusiam for learning must be shown each and every day. I feel that my job is to get the students to enjoy learning and recognize that they want to learn. A teacher must practice differentiated instruction within their classroon. Each student is different and should be treated as such. A teacher needs to assess a student's way of learning i.e. (verbal, auditory, or interactive). The teacher must try to incorporate all of these into their lessons and assessments. Successful teaching is constantly changing and adapting. A teacher's most important commitment should be to the improvement of a student's learning. As such, a teacher should be willing to change, adapt and always be open to new ways of teaching.
