About Me

Experience Summary

As a graduate of UC Riverside I have extensive experience with youth between the grades of k-12. In the past, I have worked extensively with people of all socio-economic levels. I've worked in the Political arena as a Legislative intern for the Riverside County Board of Supervisors. While working as an intern, I was in charge of the Youth Advisory Council and the Youth Commission which was composed of highly motivated and career oriented youth of Riverside county. Additionally, I have tutored for the city of Riverside for the Prime Time after-school program for middle schools students. I currently Substitute teach for San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools which serves the special needs population. I am also currently working with the Catapult program, which serves the English language learners of Rialto Unified School District. Lastly, I am the Assistant Director for an after-school program based in Rialto, Teen Focus, which is a motivational and self-esteem building program for girls that represent the "at risk" population.

Teaching Style

Teaching is something that one must have a genuine passion for in order to excel in the profession. While in college, I tutored students for the city of Riverside during as after-school program. While in the program as a lead tutor I was able to get hand on experience in teaching. I was also able to implement fun and exciting exercises for the students to engage in while completing lessons. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I continued to teach as a substitute for the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools for two years. The district is unique because they serve specifically children with cognitive developmental problems, such as autism. While teaching I have learned several techniques when dealing with special needs children and patience is the key to getting the students to cooperate effectively and learn the material. With this group of students, I incorporated a more hands on approach where through the course of the day each student in the class had one on one instruction to some extent with me to gauge their development and progress. As a teacher for the Catapult learning program, I was able to serve yet another unique group of students, English language learners. Through my experience as a Teacher, I learned that students learn when they see and feel that you genuinely care about their needs and their progress. Positive reinforcements and incentives have all served as excellent tools for my Teaching environment.
