Experience Summary
As a manager and coach I have formally and informally trained employees within my unit and provided same to those interested outside my area. Many have said "you should have been a teacher" over the years but more lucrative pursuits were my focus. I have taken the time to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity to teach a financial literacy class to a prospective homeowner. My interest motivated me to attend the Financial Literacy Commission meeting in DC on May 27th at the US Treasury Builidng and it gave me ideas on how to merge my pet project-in-process of synthesizing a progran merging a 3rd grade math curriculum with a finanical literacy module that would help citizens making better financial choices. I think your program could help me crystalize those ideas in practice.
Teaching Style
As indicated above my teaching has not been in a formal setting. I practiced on the job by 1) knowing what I am talking about, 2) listening to the person desiring knowledge, 3) allowing that person to come to believe that there is no mystery or magic to it, 4) explaining not just the "how" but the "why" of it and finally, 5) practice-correct-practice.
