Experience Summary
I began my career as a HS chemistry teacher in Lowville, NY. I taught for 3 years and then returned to graduate school where I was a teaching assisitant. I have been and adjunct professor at both the Univ of Vermont (1989 EE Dept) and Mercyhurst college (2003 Erie PA Chem Dept)and taught college level courses. I became a consultant in 1995 and also became a certified instructor for the Nat'l Assn of Surface Finishers (NASF) for various courses relating to plating and environmental science. These courses are designed at the HS/1st yr college level and often require additional explanation to students. As a consultant I teach clients what I know to solve the problem they have hired me to correct. In addition I coach HS lacrosse and have continued to work with HS students over last 20 years. As a coach I often tutor my players. I have excelllent written and verbal skills.
Teaching Style
When I became a teacher one of my professors taught me something that I have used in all my work. He said "teach those who learn, inspire those who will be inspired and love all the rest since you never know what will cause someone to want to learn or to be inspired". I have applied this to teaching, coaching anc consulting. in that I appraoch every situation as a teaching opportunity. In teaching I generally view problems 3 dimensionally and when explaining try to have several approaches as no one approach will fit all. I pose questions and assist with the solving of the question and ask for explanation of why the answer given was chosen. In this way it is more often clear what the student's confusion is and helps focus additional instruction to successfully teach the information.
