Experience Summary
I entered college to earn a degree in Art Education. Like many students I changed majors and ultimately received a BA of Psychology in 1997. While attending Emmanuel College, I was employed in their Office of Admissions. I learned valuable training and was recognized as an outstanding Admissions Counselor. These skills allowed me the opportunity to train, teach and tutor prospective Admissions counselors (approximately high school age). In addition, it allowed me the opportunity to work closely with prospective students and faculty. After college graduation I volunteered at Child and Family Services, Inc. in the Philippines. This experience included establishing rapport and counseling youth, ages seven and up. I participated in tutoring and teaching on an informal level within the organization. I have volunteered in many youth related activities, from teaching drama to organizing and leading youth camps and events, to working with juvenile delinquents. In 1999 I entered real estate and thus began a successful career utilizing many skills such as math, writing, communication, marketing, computer, public relations and more. I am searching for a new way to contribute to my community. I have the skills and heart needed to tutor children of our island.
Teaching Style
I believe in empowering children. A child needs to know that someone believes in them. If given the opportunity to excel, along with the support they need to succeed they will settle for nothing less than excellence. I feel this attitude is what allows me to easily gain rapport and trust with youth. I am fun, affirmative, forgiving and yet a disciplinarian. My expectations are high but not unrealistic. I believe that what we get out of life has everything to do with the decisions we make. My goal is to help mentor students to develop positive choices that will lead to positive lives.
