Experience Summary
As a successful college graduate in the rigorous discipline of philosophy, enhanced logical analysis, critical thinking, and compelling communication are skills that I have worked for years to cultivate, and which I have demonstrated to an above satisfactory degree, earning the distinction of magna cum laude from my alma mater, UNC Charlotte. I have tutored students in the areas of English, psychology, philosophy, statistics, algebra, and sociology for years, beginning as part of the Gaston College faculty and progressing to independent work students from all areas of Charlotte, NC. My developed strengths lend themselves to any area of service which requires acute reasoning, skilled planning, and clear communication, and I have found tutoring to fit perfectly with my abilities.
Teaching Style
I am a strong believer that a tutor is a friend first, and an instructor second. Many times I have found that a student's difficulties issued from personal matters, such as a lack of confidence, rather than specific weaknesses with the material. I always make every effort to allow a student to feel as comfortable as possible within the instructional dynamic, and in my experience, this has made all the difference. With regard to my methods of instruction, every student is very different, but I have found that making the material relatable to personal interests always induces an improvement. By casting the material in an attractive light, I have found that a student's motivation rapidly increases, with the added benefit that tutoring sessions become training sessions for their own passions, rather than rote education.
