Experience Summary
At present, I have been teaching basic reading, writing, and math in both private and public school sectors throughout the State of Tennessee since the Fall of 2006. My first formal experience was as an undergraduate Reading and Development coach for recent high school graduates entering junior college. This position consisted of leading two one-hour recitation sessions per week for two groups of 'high needs' students. During these recitations, I answered questions about the material and gave weekly quizzes that I wrote and graded. As a Coach/Tutorer, I have had full responsibility for lecturing, writing and grading midterm exams, and assigning final grades. These teaching experiences as an informal educator, teaching assistant, and a preceptor, honed my skills as an educator and a lecturer. I am confident that I will be able to teach students at all academic levels in various areas of study.
Teaching Style
Through my past experiences in the classroom and communities, I feel that I am truly an educator. I am a well-rounded individual with knowledge in many areas of expertise with all age groups. I strive to not only teach, but to reach all children in any setting to the best of my ability, and by doing so--give them the knowledge to succeed in the next stage of their learning process. I feel I can bring a positive outlook to the teaching and learning phase that will create a fun and educational atmosphere for students. I will create an atmosphere where children will feel free to ask questions and participate therefore learn and retain more knowledge. I had to acquire certain skills and knowledge in order to perform my job adequately and to be able to relay this information to others.
