Experience Summary
As a mechanical engineering graduate with 3 years of practical experience in the field, I am constantly curious of the world around me and take great delight in sharing and imparting that knowledge in others. The degree itself grounds me firmly in the math and science worlds - everything from basic skill sets in geometry and HS science to advanced level calculus and physics. Growing up with an English/ESL teacher for a mother and participating in various speaking competitions gives me a good background in English and language arts, both oral and written. I have tutored both as a volunteer and as a paid employee for various offices on the Rochester Institute of Technology campus as well as several programs in New Mexico, this along with growing up with a teacher gives me a good background in teaching skills and tactics.
Teaching Style
I tend to work well with individuals and small groups, independent of their age - I have worked with everyone from elementary school and below up to adult learners on a factory floor. My main goal is to teach by finding out what the pupil already knows and relating the subject matter to them through the already established knowledge base. Combining this this direct experience with analogy tends to bring what sometimes starts as an incomprehensible subject into the realm of what they already know and have a feel for, making them more comfortable with the subject and better able to grasp the concepts.
