Experience Summary
I am a long time resident of Hopkinton and I have recently returned to the area from Manhattan to pursue my Master's degree. I am currently enrolled in the Lesley collaborative at Belmont Day School, and will be receiving my Masters Degree in elementary education in May 2009.
For the past school year, I have worked as a full-time teaching intern. My first semester placement was in the third grade classroom, where I co-taught all areas of curriculum and had countless opportunities to observe lessons, design and create my own curriculum, and work closely with all of the students. Currently I am working in the sixth grade classroom, where I am completing my practicum work.
During my time at Belmont Day School I have been working towards creating an environment in my classroom of collaborative learning, differentiated instruction, as well as committing to responsive classroom techniques.
I am a committed educator with a strong desire to get to know each my students’ lives and history both inside and outside of the classroom. I have attached my resume and three letters of recommendations for your review. I look forward to hearing from you.
* I have passed the Communications and Literacy and the Foundations of Reading MTEL. I am awaiting my score on the General Curriculum.
Teaching Style
I truly believe in child centered learning. As a parent myself, I believe that the home life of the student is equal to, if not more important than, life in the classroom. I am a firm believer in communicating effectively with families and I view parents as allies throughout the education of their children.
Creativity is an enormous part of who I am as a teacher. As a former actress and casting director I believe my knowledge of theater and performance, combined with my classroom experience, will enable me to bring a creative, exciting and interesting approach to learning.
My educational experience has not so much informed my decision to work with elementary aged children, as it has inspired it. For me, those are the core years where the love of knowledge is fostered and encouraged. My hope is to send them forward with a light burning steadfast, a love of learning and an understanding of what makes each one of them special.
