Experience Summary
I graduated with a B.A in English from Rollins College in 2007, and I am currently working on a master's in Education. I have over five years of varied tutoring experience that includes working in my college writing center, tutoring test prep for high school kids, SES tutoring services in Orange County, as well as tutoring/home schooling in various nanny positions. I have my temporary three year teaching certificate in English 6-12, but I also have experience tutoring different subjects and ages (including math, history, art, science, humanities, writing, grammar, reading, and literature). I love tutoring and education, and I have proven results.
Teaching Style
I have experience with all age groups and types of children. I volunteer at a school for children with learning/emotional disabilities, and I have also worked with troubled at-risk students through my time doing SES tutoring. These particular experiences, as well as others, have clearly demonstrated that all children are capable of learning, but it is imperative that certain children just have a little extra time and help. I believe tutoring is essential for this reason, because the tutor gets the chance to work a bit more closely with students, so that it is slightly easier to learn their style and capabilities. On my end, I offer this attention to my students and keep detailed info about all of their setbacks, successes, learning styles etc. This, paired with the appropriate instruction based on individuals instead of groups, is what propels me forward. In addition, I am consistent, patient, and a great listener. When children see that you care and are truly making an effort to help them, it makes a world of difference, and this is the most important thing.
