Experience Summary
I just graduated about eight months ago with a B.S. in Biomedical Science from USF. I plan on going to medical school in 2010 and I am currently studying for my MCAT. Studying for this exam has helped me to gain both a further understanding of the sciences from my undergraduate studies (chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, biochemistry, anatomy/physiology, etc.) as well as how the sciences relate to and build off one another. I also am a very skilled writer and avid reader. I have extensive writing experience in both general writing (i.e. for English class) and scientific writing (i.e. lab reports and abstracts) styles. I have tutored children between the ages of 5-12 as part of an afterschool program and I have participated in many peer writing review programs at both the University of Miami and University of South Florida. English/literature and the sciences are my strongest subjects; however, my knowledge base is not limited to these subjects.
Teaching Style
I love working with children because the impact that you can have on their lives can make such a significant difference in determining their futures. Every child learns differently and unfortunately not every child’s learning needs can be met in the classroom environment. I feel that with a little extra time and effort a child's scholastic performance can be greatly improved. Determining a child's strengths and weaknesses when it comes to learning along with identifying the learning styles that they are receptive to (i.e. auditory, visual, etc.) is an important step in providing the appropriate tutoring experience for that individual. I believe that an education is one of the keys to a fulfilling and successful life that I think every child deserves this opportunity.
