Experience Summary
In my educational and professional life, I have focused on achieving excellence in writing. I have taught writing composition, journalism, creative writing, and literature at the college level for five years, and have worked as a writer in the professional world over a decade. In addition to writing, I have worked as a freelance editor and marketing writer now for the past 18 years to supplement my full-time positions. I possess an extensive knowledge of all levels of writing and composition from basic grammar and spelling to constructing the compelling persuasive argument, or formulating the expository essay. I am returning to tutoring now because I want to enter teaching full-time once again. My passion for teaching students has never waned and it is time for me to return to the profession I love most.
Teaching Style
First and foremost, I love working with students. I believe all students have an ability to learn once you find the way to connect with them. I think the key is in finding that particular connection because each student is gifted in his or her own special way. All people learn differently, and I approach teaching with this understanding and appreciation of the differences in all students and their backgrounds. I think students benefit from a sort of structured guidance that sets them on the right path to learning the material but gives them the room and freedom to feel a sense of empowerment through their own discovery of the embedded lessons. I believe this sense of empowerment and the building of self-esteem through successful learning is a key factor in helping students reach their full potential academically and in life.
