Experience Summary
While attending Bates College, I was motivated academically to achieve the best education possible. I sought out teachers who inspired me to work harder and enjoyed participating in chapel services, community service activities and participating in competitive sporting events. During school vacations, I explored jobs that followed my academic strengths. To date, I have earned two degrees, a BA in English from Bates College and a M.Ed. in Curriculum Development from Lesley University. I am certified to teach 6-12 in the state of Florida and 7-12 in Maine, and learned the art of creative nonfiction writing applying this skill later to community news reporting. In addition to writing as a staff and freelance reporter, I have tutored English, the arts, writing, middle school math and marine science
Teaching Style
As a writer, I spent my early years refining my grammar skills and continued on this path in college, graduate school and in my professional life. I am a published poet and was accepted to attend the 2003 Breadloaf Young Writer's Conference. I
I enjoy teaching students of all abilities and specialize in working with gifted and talented youth and youth who are interested in exploring the world in an experiential way. I am the kind of teacher who takes time to get to know a child's individual interests and teach using the student centered model in the classroom. I believe in teaching children to gain confidence in them by reinforcing the positive strengths. I do believe that teachers have a real opportunity to make a difference in students' lives. As an educator, I hope to meet with students and teach them to recognize their own unique gifts.
