Experience Summary
I have earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in mining engineering which have given me a deep understanding in many areas of math, science and engineering. During my undergraduate and graduate education, I worked both as a research assistant and as a teaching assistant.
In my role as a research assistant I was a member, and later a leader, of an interdisciplinary team of researchers. I gained extensive grammatical skills through my experience preparing research papers, laboratory reports and technical presentations.
In addition to my research duties, I acted as a teaching assistant for three years during my education. For this position, I received training in teaching and tutoring styles. I was responsible for providing out-of-class tutoring on engineering topics which heavily involved the application of math and science concepts. I was also occasionally responsible for grading assignments and for substitute teaching undergraduate mining engineering courses.
Teaching Style
I believe all students can achieve success given the right learning experience and motivation. I appreciate that there are several methods through which students learn, and I believe the key to effective teaching is to find the right method for each student. There are many ways to explain any subject. If one explanation does not make sense, it is usually possible to find another way to say, write, draw or demonstrate the same idea. I am very patient and considerate of students’ needs, and I try to be as sensitive as possible to the learning style of each student. My goal is to provide the most educational experience possible by finding the learning style that works best for each student and by allowing them to learn through discovery.
