Experience Summary
I have been teaching in Duval County for 3 years. My first year was as a sub and I deliberately taught every day, generally in ESE/VE. In my first months I taught at 26 different schools, from elementary to high school. The allowed me to earn significant experience in a short time.
Employed at a local high school here in Jacksonville, Florida, for the last two years, I spent my first year teaching VE (varying exceptionality life skills math and life skills English) in a resource classroom. 2008-2009, I teach inclusion/differentiation based curriculum to English III honors and Advanced Placement English Language/comp.
I have been writing a column for the community section of the local newspaper of record's website for the past few years and have been published in the paper itself frequently.
I am a superb teacher, leader, manager, communicator, and presenter. I bring considerable experience, wisdom, patience and heart to my work as an educator. I have a lot more to give.
Teaching Style
Teaching is where I belong. I am passionate as well as creative about teaching young people how to think, learn, develop, and grow. My efforts and skills surpass simply the subject matter and reach to character, learning strategies, becoming successful, and understanding strengths and how to improve weakness.
People say that teachers don't make much. On the contrary, I make a big difference in the lives of my students.
My approach is realistic. With regards to classroom management, I simply deny the student the opportunity to be disciplined. I look for students doing something right and reward them immediately. I ask my students to get caught doing something right.
I teach outside of the status quo box. If they are not learning in traditional formats, then I come to understand how EACH student learns and develop my plans and approach specifically to that student. That is true differentiation, and it works great.
I teach students how to be successful in ways they understand. Success breeds success, as well as a hunger for yet more success.
Furthermore, I champion my students: I am their devoted advocate.
