Experience Summary
I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Penn State in 2007. Since then, I spent the next two years as a child and adolescent counselor. I taught clients in a group setting about social and interpersonal skills, as well as aiding teachers in various school subjects. In high school, I took part in an extracurricular program which tutored local middle school children with homeworks and projects after school. I was also a teacher's assistant at my Chinese school, and often conducted lessons by myself.
Teaching Style
With a psychology background and as a behavioral-modification counselor, I believing in applying operant conditioning to set and reach goals. It is NOT corporal punishment. Rather, it's a system of rewards that are age-appropriate and motivational to help the learner achieve the desire result at a reasonable pace, which will get rid of the fear and overwhelming feelings of learning. This opens up a two-way street of communication and expectations. I also believe in personal responsibility, because ultimately, it is the learner who will retain and utilize the skills and knowledge he or she picks up.
