Experience Summary
I have always loved teaching. Since I was a young girl in high school my dream was to become a teacher. After completing my Bachelors in Biology I decided to further my education by doing a doctorate. this has allowed me to acquire writting and verbal skills. Presenting research data to audiences of various backgrounds has allowed me to be quite comfortable teaching or exposing. Also, during my graduate work I spent much time willingly tutoring college freshmen in subjects like general biology, cell biology, anatomy and physiology. I have worked with students helping them prepare for the MCATs and also with students looking to apply for graduate school
Teaching Style
To be an effective instructor, it is necessary to have a perfect environment; one that allows for interaction and collaboration between students and their instructor. Hence I believe that teaching should be comprised of two complementary elements: knowledge of content and ability to transfer this knowledge to a group of people. Knowing the subject is not enough, one has to be able to develop excellent communication skills that will allow you to pass on your knowledge to a diverse group of people. It is also important that when the fundamentals of the subject are presented, real world examples follow. From this, students can experience a practical application of the learning process. I encourage students to ask questions. I do so by doing my best to motivate my students. Motivation when achieved can get a poor student to become excellent!
