Experience Summary
My education background began in 1990. That year I earned my AA in education from Scottsdale Community College in the area of education. In 1992 I received my BA from Arizona State University in education. I began working in the Balsz Unifed School District in 1992 and was employed as a special education teacher in the Balsz district for 12 years, and three more years in Prescott, Arizona as we had moved from Phoenix, Arizona to Prescott, Arizona. I hold Arizona state certifications in regular education K-8; special education K-12 and emotional disabilities K-12. I am highly certified in these areas and hold a bachelor’s degree (1992) plus many extra hours in the field of education with a master’s equivalency. I have tutored students while earning my degrees and after school when I was employed with the Balsz district.
I have developed many individual education plans during my years as a special education teacher and believe the plans are important for all students so that goals can be measured and achieved.
Teaching Style
Students learn with a variety of learning methods. Some students are more kinetic, while others are more auditory or visual. I think it is important for students to develop self- esteem and see themselves succeeding, and that is what I work on first including staying on task. I have always used Madeline Hunters guidelines for successful lesson plans, which includes using manipulatives to assist students in understanding concepts. My focus is on educational strategies such as rules of phonics, Spalding, a variety of reading and math programs to assist students in remembering what they are learning so that the student can complete their assignments and use in their future education.
