Experience Summary
Graduating from engineering at Penn State exposed me to a lot of math. It also exposed me to many tutoring opportunities. I tutored many of my fellow students. I was also tutored in other subjects, thus I also became aware of how to tutor from both sides.
After obtaining a job, I volunteered for the math tutoring program at my company. By the next year I ran the program. I have successfully tutored children and adults to their goals in math (and also science, history, and other subjects).
Teaching Style
I enjoy tutoring, both with children and adults. I enjoy being able to take something that people deem as difficult and explain it in a way that they can understand it and apply it like they never did before. I am very patient and friendly and can relate to my students. I am also good at having them relate to the subject, thereby showing them the importance of what they are learning as it pertains to them. I enjoy watching their faces light up as they not only start to understand the material, but gain confidence that they can do more. All of my students have commented that they wish their teachers could have explained concepts the way I have and that they enjoyed my sessions.
My Hobbies
sports of all types - I like playing and watching - especially football. However, I also enjoy volleyball, running, basketball, baseball, the olympics, etc.
Other Comments
I have always had great success in tutoring people, especially at math. Many people have told me that they have never gotten as high a grade in a math course as when I was tutoring them. I am very easy going and the students appreciate my style and efforts.
