Experience Summary
As an educator, I have 10 years experience in public education for grades k-12. While my main focus has been in the field of Special Education as a Teacher's Assistant, I am now certified to teach English Language Arts in Massachusetts. I am pursuing my Master's Degree in Education, so that I may obtain a Reading Specialist license. I have tutored students in math, social studies, english language arts, and reading.
Teaching Style
Because I've worked with students who have various learning differences, I have a vast array of teaching strategies. What works for one child doesn't always work for another. I encourage auditory learners to always read the instructions back to me. It helps if they can explain the material as if they were teaching the subject. Visual learns tend to respond to charts, graphs, note-taking, powerpoint- anything containing shapes and color. Tactile learners have sensory needs. If at all possible, this type of learner should be given a "hands-on" task to help them assimilate the material. I believe that my patience and relaxed nature builds confidence and trust in each student. All children can be motivated to learn, because all children want to succeed in life.
