Experience Summary
Since attaining my Masters Degree in 1972, I have worked at various jobs in educational and literary publishing, both as an editor and writer, and have taught English and Creative Writing at the high school and undergraduate levels. As a secondary language arts editor and writer, I have broad experience in the creation of grammar, composition, and literature textbooks. I am also an award-winning author of five collections of poetry and have worked as a freelance newspaper reporter and book reviewer. For about four years I have been mentoring struggling writers to help them prepare their manuscripts for publication.
Teaching Style
In working with young adults, I try to unlock my students' potential by helping them discover the immense power that language can convey and that can be at their disposal as both readers and writers. As an avid reader and writer myself, I attempt to instill my own enthusiasm for lifelong learning and to instruct students to hone their critical thinking with an eye to deepening their understanding and to expressing their ideas with clarity and precision.
