Experience Summary
Throughout my college career I have taught piano lessons to all ages and tutored both Italian and German through the university tutoring program. I started studying Italian as an undergraduate student at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and have continued for the past 7 years here and in Italy. I have family in northern Italy with whom I have stayed, and we communicate exclusively in Italian. In addition to the teaching experience listed above, I also taught undergraduate music theory for two years in Cincinnati. I have an extensive knowledge of grammar in Italian and can teach practical conversational Italian as well.
Teaching Style
I have a dual approach to teaching languages, including both structured lessons on grammar and also practice learning idiomatic phrases. I think it's important to approach foreign language practically, so that people can learn basic communication skills without necessarily knowing all of the grammar. While I do think that grammar is important to adult language learning, it takes time and should not overshadow learning how to speak.
